Sounds like a faulty non return valve , have a read of this post

looks like this....there is an easy way to tell if the non return valve is blocked or stuck.fill the system as normal,make sure the aquaroll is full.remove the drain plug outside of the carver and get someone to switch on the pump.if its blocked the water will just trickle out.if its ok the water will gush out.i cured mine with a thin 10 inch water colour brush,just pushed it back with the brush through the drain hole.lasted for years after until sold.might work with care.
