Need a bit of help with the slats on the read dinette of our Bailey Pageant Provence.
I was setting up the rear sleeping arrangement and putting a travel cot up and my foot went through one of the slats. I know this is easy to replace but has any one got any ideas on how to get the staples out of the webbing that the slat is attached to. Also, do you need a special tool to put new staples into the new slat or could anyone recommend anything else??
As wide a blade screwdriver or knife under the staple should allow you to prize them out. If you have not got one of those staple guns, then a normal stapler would work but you would have to support the slat underneath so as not to brake it when inserting the staple. The staples are for nothing more than keeping the slats distance constant, they do not take ant weight.
Thanks alot for the responses - I am quite a big fella and I was wondering if there is something I could strengthen the slats with or replace them for at leat for the next year as I will have to get on the bed to put our 1 year old in the tracel cot??

the only thing i can think of is to make a goal post shape out of 2x2 wood the full length of the slats when opened out.this can be slid into place at the centre of the slats giving support.or buy one of these but not sure if it will go under the slats.........
I had the same thing last week, We ended up braking two of the slats on our bed (long story ) but am also a big fella.
I took one of the slats down to the local timber yard and just asked them to cut some replacements that were an inch wider and from Pine. The only snag now is that it's a little more awkward to pull the slats out and put them back down but as the bed is so much stronger now it's well worth it
I used one of those nail removing screwdriver things, you know, the ones that have a head a bit like the claw of a clawhammer, worked a treat to get the old staples out.
like you i'm a bit on the large size and broke a slat in our old van, I used 2''x1'' to replace it and made a 2''x1'' frame to go under it to help strengthen it , it worked a treat. atb Bill

thanks for all the advice, just came back from a weekend at Holmsley in the new Forest and it was great apart from the weather - just knocked up a few larger slats and it worked a treat.
