I would check the wheel bearings,if they are taper ones they may have come loose and caused the wheel to lean in towards the arch.also if they have come loose it could be the split pin has broken or fell out,you could lose a wheel in it has.also are the wheel nuts tight ??.
------------- Think this year is to follow old meet friends for 2014.
If you cant do someone a good turn, don`t do them a bad one,its nice to be nice you know, and little things mean much more later in life.
Pete.
Is it the inner face, outer face or top of the arch? In other words, is the tyre leaning or just going up too far. First step is to jack the caravan up and try to waggle the wheel.
Have you changed the tyres and got the wrong size. Or somehow changed the wheels around and got them on backwards so the spacing is wrong. Is it the same problem on both sides or just one. Just a few thoughts.
It is rubbing on the inner side wall of the tyres on both sides. The vertical part. the holes that have been made I would say are about 7cm x 5cm.
The tyres are exactly what is said in the handbook & I think the wheels are original. We have only owned this van for 18 mths & we have never removed the wheels. I will get my hisband to check the wheel nuts.
What does concern me however is that it was serviced by a mobile engineer about 2mths ago & he did not pick this up. I did use a MCEA engineer that somebody recommended from this forum. This fault was there when he serviced it as we have not used it since then.
I would go back to the engineer and ask him. He should have removed the wheels to clean and check the brakes and depending on the chassis the are supposed to check/change the wheel bearings and regrease. The Alko ones have to have the nuts changed too, so I would go to him first and give him a chance to look at and rectify the problem.
Hi
A friend of mine had this problem on his Lunar Quasar. It turned out that Lunar had fitted inside wheel liners for a 13" wheel on the van. His van was fitted with 14" wheels. The repair in this case was done under warranty.

MCEA enginer , need we say more , cheap and chearfull and sometimes clueless
even some main dealers can do shoddy work and not cheap,i know they did mine.that is why i now use a mobile service engineer.with my engineering background i could very easily do it myself but am not allowed as the insurance needs proof of service for the 10 year policy.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.

that don`t matter so much the bigger the rim the small the Tyre profile to keep the same ratios, so could be a case of wrong profile size if thats the case, or if like my old van the susspension had become very weak and the van sat very low and dam hard to get the wheels off as they was 165`s and not 155`s
The age of the tyres also makes a difference, Older tyres break down and the sidewalls loose the stiffness and will bulge out. Check the age on the tyres. There often isn't much clearance to start with and a tyre with poor sidewalls can bulge out over 5cms, I had this problem with mine the tread as usual looked as new but the sidewalls had deteriorated so much due to old age they had to be changed
------------- Doing as little as possible for as much as possible...
ive seen this a few times when i have serviced caravans as said it could be one of many reasons, i have also come across the actual wheel arch becomes distorted and mis shaped causing it to rub on the tyres. whatever the cause i would recommend replacing the tyres as to cause such damage to the wheel arch it has bound to have caused the tyre to get hot and could cause the tyre to blow out on road
Thought I would let you know the outcome of the fault on my caravan.
Would you believe that the manufacturers made the caravan with the incorrect axle on which has now failed!
So am having a new axle, wheel boxes & tyres including fitting at the cost of manufacturer. I must say that the dealer in this case has been extremely helpful.
Am quite satisfied at this result however it does somewhat worry me that this could of ever happened! I will be completly happy when the work is carried out & I can once again enjoy my caravan. When that will be........I do not know!!!
Hi we also have a Lunar Quasar 524 -2004 and have just discovered the wheel arche has worn through, this happened on a return from holiday in wet weather and now the van has an extremly wet floor base/carpet. On further inverstigation we have the same problem as referred to below. We are now in communication with Lunar, although our van is past it's warranty as this problem was there when it was made we hope they will support us to rectify. Interesting to see other Lunar vans with same problem, shame as we have loved this van and were looking to replace with a new Lunar this coming season, will be rethinking now, and particularly waiting to see if they support us to resolve.
