Hello everyone, yesterday a posted a topic about my sister smashing her window on a 1984 esprit caravan (normally a very good driver I forgot to add). Well thanks to one of the replies on the thread she has located a window to be delivered by friday but we all go away Sunday and her Caravan Man can't come until monday. So her question is to you out there "whether it is easy to change the arms and brackets etc to change a window ie suitable job for an amateur, or not ? and any of their hottest tips ?"
Changing a window is fairly straightforward. The trick is to mark the position of the existing pane and window stay bracket.
Removing the old window is simply a matter of removing the end cap from the aluminum window hanger and removing a small grub screw at the side of the pane.
The window when lifted to around 45 deg and slid off the hanger will come off.
Fitting is the reversal of removing..

yes it is not hard to do,just need the courage to do it.some windows are fitted on a rail on the outside of the van and stand proud and easy to get at.some rails are fitted in a recess at the front of the van.i fitted three on our old van but mine was in a recess and i had to loosen and lift the rail to slide the windows out.first thing to do is remove all fittings on the window inside because these drop down and get in the way.remove end cap with screw.lift the window to 90 degs and slide out.refit is reversal of same.did you get the window in wales?
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
I have registered myself now (James' sister with the broken window). Thanks for all your help. My husband is going to give it a go at the weekend so look out for the panicky posts when it doesn't go quite to plan ! I'm worried about fixing the window fittings/arms to the new window. Presumably we have to drill through it ? and it won't crack ?
Yes I am getting the new window from Wales - www.caravanbreakers.net - as recommended on this forum.
Brand new window identical (I hope) to my 1984 Esprit window for £120 delivered next day. This compares to £265 to have one made by EECO. + they have already fitted this window to Sprites which is reassuring.
I am still superglueing the old one back together and will seal it with sticky back clear plastic - so I have an emergency spare - not that I will EVER do that again !
