Hello people,

I stayed on a site at the weekend with no hook up and i had to use the gas.

My problem is i have soot coming out of the exhaust on the side of the caravan i also noticed on further investigation that it keeps trying to light up.

it being a gas appliance i did not take any chances and turned it off. Any ideas?

TIA

Kev G

I agree, thats the usual cause, you can remove the outer cowl then the inner cowl, but i dont know if that will be enough to see the problem, if you can't then you'll need an engineer to strip it out as they can be tricky, they arn't simple like the carver cascade.

Thanks People,

I will have a peep and see what's what? i am a Mechanic by trade so stripping it down should be ok. But if it looks to complicated i will have to call an engineer in.

Thanks for your help i will post with progress.

Get a fine nozzle on a high pressure air line and poke it into the vent and try and blow it clear of debris. That usually works, but failing that get someone in to strip it out as a bad buring flame can cause carbon monoxide.

Thank you for everyones help on this. and a special thanks to Pete who took the time to show how to do it. i stripped it out and removed the burner and yes there were lots of cobwebs and soot.

Rebuilt and fitted back in situ connected up pipework tested for leaks on the gas side using the good old soap and bubble method all ok. Fired it up worked first time left it for 30mins no fumes no black soot.

Job's a good un

A good time to remind people to fire up the gas side of all appliances from time to time to keep them in good order.
