Just thought I would pass this info on.
1st break away this year in York & we found the cassette toilet flush/rinse failed to work. Investigation revealed that the fuse (inside the cassette locker) had blown and this subsequently turned out to be because the pump had siezed - seemingly a common occurrence according to the many reports we found on the web.
When we withdrew the pump from the tank (following the excellent repair instructions on the Thetford-Europe.com site), we found that the pump impeller was very tight but was able to be slowly freed by gentle manipulation with long nose pliers (there isn't much of the impeller exposed). We also noticed that around the pump water and electrical flanges there were significant 'solid' deposits of a pink 'mass' which appeared to be something that had seperated out from the pink freshness additive we use in the flush tank. Once the pump was sufficiently freed to allow it to run electrically, we repeatedly flushed the tank through (via normal 'flushing') with fairly warm water into which we had added a small amount of washing up liquid. This produced a surprisingly large amount of these pink deposits which had clearly caused the the pump to become gunged up and to eventually sieze.
Note that at the end of last season, we had completely drained the tank of flush water but we will now in future also repeat the soapy water flushing process to ensure that all the freshness additive is cleared from the system prior to storage.
