I would like to replace my caravan carpet with vinyl/flotex, does anyone know how to do this or a company that could do it for me.

Any suggestions / advice would be appreciated. Thanks Nicola

Hi,

The carpet is usually put in before the furniture so getting it out is a real pain. The best bet is to knife it out around the fittings and lay vinyl. The carpet, if in good nick, could be edged and used in colder months as a loose lay, or put back in for re-sale of the van.

it`s easy to do your self if you do not mind a few hours work, we did our old one but as the carpet was old it broke up when we lifted it, so no template to use for cutting the vinyl had to use lots of tape and news papers to make one. did not bother with the carpet that went under things. just stuck the new stuff in with lots of glue beading where needed and then put a nice bit of new carpet on the top near front window seating area.going to do our new van soon just do not like the idea of carpet by the kitchen and door even with runners down.

An ordinary carpet shop should be able to do it.We had our first 'van done and are having our present 'van done soon just by the guy who fitted the stair carpet in our house. Go along to the showroom and see if you can get an offcut that you like and ask them to fit it.

If you have the job done by a carpet shop you can make the job cheaper if you remove the old one yourselves

.Sometimes the fittings are on top or the carpet is stapled around the edges and these are a pig to get out.I took ours up while on site a couple of weeks back ready for some vinyl and it took a couple of hours to get all the tiny staples out as we have a trap where the spare wheel is and there were hundreds of them.If you leave any sticking up it will make fitting vinyl difficult

Fairly easy job for me as i am a carpet fitter, its just finding the time to go to the van in storage to do it.

Guys

Thanks for all the advise, i was quoted £360 for doing it, so i might give my hubby a couple of patience pills and see it he can do it.

Thats after i have a quote from a carpet fitter, if it is not to expensive i may not have to endure the swear words.
