Hello, I have a problem with my Carver 3000s heater, the igniter attached to the metal rod that has the knob on the top has fallen apart, the plastic has deteriorated. I now have to take the cover off the heater and ignite it with my thumb and adjust the flame setting without the bar. I am really looking for a complete bar with igniter attached.

I have a 1994 swift challenger if that is of any use, I have looked for caravan breakers in Scotland but no joy as of yet and searching the internet doesnt help either.

Thanks in advance

Sue, yours is a 3000 fire and Megabyte has a 3000S, don't sound a lot but infact two entirely different fires.

So sue, your fire is a re-badged Truma 3002, this is the same fire as the current one fitted in all new vans since 2000. This means one of Truma's 'old style' control rods fits albeit it's about 40mm too long and needs shorting. You can get one of these from your local dealer and alter it yourself, or I can supply one ready to fit.

Megabyte, I presume your control rod has broken out of the piezo holder at the top? if so it can be fixed stronger than new with a cheap jubilee clip and two pack epoxy glue.

By cheap, I mean the slim clips you buy in blister packs for around ten for a quid!
Thing is their slots are punched all the way through the band, this makes the band very flexible so it moulds around the rod and holder, they also have smaller screw heads so don't foul anything when turning.
Finish the job with the glue to bond the lot together

Gary, thanks for that, I have almost given up trying to find the part.

I will give it a go this weekend and let you know how I get on.

Fixed, got 2 jubilee clips for less than 2 quid from B&Q, put these over the broken black plastic, used epoxy resin to glue the plastic back together but for strength I left the jubilee clips on for good, left to set overnight. Tested fire, works a treat again. Thanks for the help!!
