We've recently purchased our first caravan and it is fitted with a plug in systems ltd pms34 power unit. Does anyone have a copy of the manual as I'm not sure of all it's functionality e.g. if it's plugged into the 240v mains hook up, does it charge the leisure battery also does it have an inverter. Thanks

Can't help regarding a manual, is this an older unit?

From what I have found, Plug-In Systems are either now owned by, or trade as Sargent Electrical in Hull. Might be worth checking their site here for tech info and advice.

It's a 1996 Freedom Clubclass, so yes quite old. The Sargent website does give some useful information, I'll try emailing them to see if they have any info.

Thanks for the help

First, it's now 'Bonus' Plug in Systems, it used to be 'CEC' PinS, Sargent are a different company.

Another company called Amperor are now making compatible chargers for PinS PMSx control panels as well as replacement standalone chargers.
------------------

Anyway, PMS34? I didn't know they went that high? PMS1 to 9 I know they made, then PMS2000

Any chance of a picture?

All the PMSx have an internal 12v 12Amp power source, not really a battery charger but it does do a reasonable job of charging the battery. Upside is and if needs be, it can run your 12v systems without a battery while on hook up

All PMSx work the same as far as charging is concerned,

'CAR' is for running off the car battery while on site

'VAN' is obviously for running of the van battery but also the internal charger is charging it.

'OFF' if it's marked or the middle position of the switch, isolates the battery from the van while towing and is the position for charging the battery via the cars 12S socket while towing.
It is also the position for running the van by the charger only while on hookup, without the battery or without charging the battery if fitted

The rest of the switches are generally self explanatory, or if in doubt switch one off and see what stops working!

Thanks for this info. I've tried it out now and discovered it does all work just as you've described. The major problem was that the wires had been pulled out from the 12S socket due to not leaving enough cable length to cope with a tight turn.

Just thought - it might be a PMS 3 H for horizontal.

Mike

No it's not Mike, this fooled me but I've recently fixed one and it's similar to and succeeded the PMS2000.

Does then beg the question what it's doing in a 96 camper?!

There is no PMS 34.
It’s a PMS 3H for horizontal.
The typeface makes the H look also like a 4 which it isn’t.

The manual is available at

Yes - was a great relief to realise that in the end!
