Hi All,

I think  after deciding we liked caravanning after 2 years of trying it.I need mega help. Just bought our 2nd caravan upgraded from a 1985 Sprite Muskateer to a 1991 Abi Somerset. Worked out how most things work, i think but have a couple of problems i am not sure how to deal with.

1st. I was aware that the caravan had a spongy floor by the door, but on further inspection this is quite more serious and covers almost half of the floor around the kitchen and door area.  Is this a major problem and can it be sorted by DIY.

2nd I purchased a brand new leisure battery, connected everything up and it lasted just about 2 nights, so t looks as if the electrics are not working and the invertor/ is not charging the battery. again can this be easily sorted by DIY. I suppose it may be a fuse blown but not been able to check this yet. any help will be greatly appreciated. Starting to think I was sold a problem.

Floor sounds like delamination, I think you can fix it yourself, but no expert myself, sure someone on here can advise you tho!

an inverter wont charge a battery, you need a charger which will only charge if connected to the mains.

a few questions,

was the caravan attached to the mains ?

what things were you running off the 12v?

Hi Mike, sorry took so long to get back. but had a family funeral to deal with. The caravan was attached to mains at the time, with new battery connected. As far as i can tell the electric flush toilet, water pump and lights off 12 volt as these are the things that stopped working, i still had power to fridge, one of the side lights and power sockets.

Thanks

Mike,

I am only assuming it is an Inverter as this is what the guy who sold me the caravan called it. He also siad that it would charge the battery up when connected to mains. It is a seperate power box fixed to the floor and has a mains lead coming into it, and a number of fuses, 3 i think and these are 10 amp there is also a seperate RCD unit and if I remember something similar atteched to this box. It may haver been a transformer i am thinking of.

If it isn't charging I MAY be able to repair it for you if I can source the bits needed--let me know if I can help.
