It seems I am destined never to have free flowing running water in my Elddis Broadway 1995 caravan!

After experiencing dribs and drabs, I took it to a caravan repair place who, after investigating under the floorboards, found that the previous owner had fitted a relay switch for some bizarre reason.  This had meant that I had to intermittently turn on the cold and hot water taps to get water.  After removing this relay switch - result!!  Free flowing water..... for one outing only and then my water pump stopped working.  So I bought a new water pump - a Whale Watermaster High Flow which, for the first two outings, was fantastic.

However, during my week's holiday in Norfolk, it has started spraying more water from the outside socket than it's drawing to the tap - now the tap has completely stopped working and the grass is getting a right good soaking.  My OH has disconnected the cold feed pipe underneath the seating and water comes through the pipe ok (and no outside spraying).  But when connecting back up to the tap it stops and water sprays outside the van.  This is the case when trying both the kitchen and wash room taps

Could there be a blockage?  Something to do with the bizarre previous relay switch removal?  Help - I'm getting really fed up....

Not quite the same problem but I did have the filter housing crack that then allowed water to spray over next door's van!!17

Changed the housing and had no more probs.

Hi

Just back from Norfolk.  Our water completely stopped working in the end.  Its definitely nothing to do with the filter housing - it sprays from out of the water pump connection.  Doubt its the carver heater valve because it won't work for hot or cold.  I've tried turning both taps on at the same time as I understand that gets rid of air but nothing...  Am going to have to pay to get a mobile repair person to come and sort it out.  Yet another expense!!  This caravan is costing me a fortune.  Oh well, its worth it.

Thanks anyway.

Could it be that the non return valve in the filter housing is stuck (in the end of the spigot that the pipework connects to inside the van)?

if the non return valve is stuck shut, the water will have no where to go so will spray back to the outside when the pump is activated.this because the non return vale is blocking the pipe completely.therefore no cold water is entering the tank of the water heater.if no cold is going in the no hot water can be made.to prove you have a blocked non return valve, set up the pump and water barrel in the normal way as you would fill the system.remove the drain plug of the carver two outside.get someone to switch on the pump inside for a minute or two.if water only trickles out then the non return valve is shut stuck.if the water gushes out the the non return valve is ok.i cured mine with a ten inch water colour brush by pushing it up the outside drain plug, this was done with the pump running, this pushed back the non return valve and it ran trouble free for four years until we sold the van.

Michael, I was talking about the non return valve in the Crystal filter housing itself. In my van (1991 Elddis) both hot and cold feeds are supplied through the filter and I had a similar problem. I replaced the filter housing and removed the valve before fitting the pipework. No more problems.
