For my Abbey Caravan 2004 I'm away in two weeks and thought better check fridge woks on Gas.... as 10 days on sites with no power.

Doesnt work. Its a Thetford N80. The gas is switched on. left switch in gas posistion. the ignitor clicks away. push in gas valve and leave in for 30+ seconds. The indicator goes into green area... when let gas valve back out the indicator drops the ignitor fires up again

I have assumed the Thermocouple ! Would any one agree or disagree? I have ordered a new one on this assumption.

My problem now is how to get to the working parts of this fridge ???????

I took the 4 screws out that fix it to the furniture. But wary of pulling out. Would the gas pipe be on a flexible connection... same mains and 12V and pulling it out will it disconnect from the flues etc ?

Appreciate comments on this bit please... Thank You

You need to remove the top vent outside and the flue vent/pipe .
Look thro the top vent hole , there should be a plate that is screwed to the fridge and inside of the caravan , it deflects heat out of the vent , you'll need to unscrew this .
Once done you should be able to pull the fridge forward enough to disconnect the gas , mains and 12volt . Note i'd recommend having the reinstallation done by a expert , as you can't take chances with gas etc .

Dunno if Thetford Fridge is similar but when you get this problem on an Electrolux Fridge its usually the burner needs cleaning. You can usually access this by removing lower vent on outside of caravan. Cleaning burner with a small artists type paintbrush dipped in meths usually works.

I only need to pull fridge out enough to get at the Thermocouple ! I assumed on the top, but do I need to take unit all the way out ? Thinking about it I assume burner at back near bottom?

I'll have a go at the burner suggestion first. I bought caravan second hand so have no idea how much it has been used in the past on gas,

If take out... would I be correct in assuming its on a flexible gas hole... I do not want to damade gas pipes and connectors.. especially as going away in less than two weeks!

Cheers. Mike

Thanks for suggestions, however turns out that the problem was the selector switch

The wiring all seems to go through this switch including for the thermocouple. I'm told its a common problem with the Thetford N80 fridge

So thought would let you know, so here if anyone else does a search for problems with this fridge not staying gas lit.

PS to replace the unit the best way turned out to be in may case just remove the sink, this gives access, to top of fridge and therefore didnt have to remove the fridge at all

My thanks to sunbeams7.

I have had trouble with the flame staying lit on my Thetford N80 fridge in the past (new thermocouples fitted) so, in preparation for the first trip out for 18 months, thought that I would check the fridge out. Back to the same old problem.

After reading through various websites for advice and after substituting the thermocouple for another spare, cleaning every electrical connection and dismantling and re-assembling the gas valve I came across sunbeams7 solution to his own problem.

As it happens I have recently had problems with my car alarm going off and one of the suggestions was "sticky microswitch". One poster had solved the same problem by spraying his switches with a product called Servisol, a switch cleaning lubricant, so I tried the same (my problem was a broken wire so it didn't work).

With nothing to lose I sprayed the fridge selector switch with Servisol and am pleased to report that, so far (6 consecutive times) the flame has stayed alight after the ignition knob has been released. Keeping my fingers firmly crossed.
