I feel a bit cheeky having just joined the forum and asking for advice straight away, but here goes...Our fridge smells really bad no matter how many times we clean it out the smell will not go,but when the fridge is switched off and the door left open the smell isn't there !! I've took the outside vents off nothing is blocked and no smell there . Any advice most welcome fed up of cleaning fridge out every day we are away.
Try cleaning it out with soda bicarbonate, it neutralises odours, a little pot of it kept in the fridge can help keep it sweet too. Otherwise there are fridge deodorisers available from most supermarkets which contain activated charcoal which does the same job. I have a mesh bag full of activated charcoal pellets which came as an unwanted 'free gift' with an aquarium filter (the filter was for terrapins not fish) so I tried that in my fridge, just placed at the back of a shelf - works a treat!
We had a problem with our fridge a few years ago, whilst the caravan was in storage there wasnt any smell but as soon as we went on site and used the fridge we had a smell of rotten bacon every time we opened the door. We tried everything regards cleaning the inside of the fridge suggested on this forum without success until somebody mentioned the plastic creased seal round the door and pulling the seal out and cleaning inside the creases. Problem solved no more smell and every spring we do the same.
Hi manymany remedies and ideas can be banded around about this one,, clean it with warm water and bicarbonate of soda on a clean wet cloth, dry it and then sprinkle some bicarb on a saucer or similar and leavein the clean fridge with the door shut. Keep checking it and then after a few days re-clean the fridge with a Milton solution. I do this at the end and beginning of every season and we never have a trouble. Good luck, Gary
