Went away this week-end,Saturday night we had our electric cut off after the breaker tripped. We lost all 240 volts which was soon put back on by the site owner, all very good so far. While we were waiting for him to come I thought the battery lights etc would come on but nothing. The battery was fully charged and was showing full whilst on in the van. All 12 volt systems were working fine until this morning when I came to pack up after disconnecting the mains I checked the 12 volt lights etc but nothing was working. I hope some-one can give me some advice before we go away again this week-end.
I don't know what sort of distribution system you have Dennis. Is it a "Plug-in systems" or a ZIG ? -
Anyway, Check all the fuses for whatever system you have, some are black fuseholders with a screwdriver slot, these usually hold glass fuses which you can get from the caravan shop or a tv repair store/Maplin/tandy etc. More modern types use car-type blade fuses (these are mostly 10Amp red ones). I assume by the fact that the battery was showing full in the van that you have either a meter showing charge or little red & green led's indicating battery level.
If the battery is showing ok there and you are switched to Caravan (not off or car) then 12V is definitely getting as far as the distribution panel.
in this instance, it could be a fault on the distribution unit. If it is, then you will need a competent person to look at it for you.
These two are right. The 12 volt fuses are usually in the most unexpected place, all on their own (try looking under the seat right in the corners). It may be that one of these has blown.
I'm not an expert, but it seems to me that if the 12 volt lights are working when connected to 240 volts mains supply, then they are running from your caravan battery charger when on mains. I expect they would still be using the same in line fuse as when on battery, so can't see it being a fuse problem.
I would look to see if the battery terminals are connected correctly. After that check for a loose or bad connection between the battery and the in line fuse.

Tandy?????
Do they still exist?
Nope, not in the UK.
I miss them, Radio Shack and all that crap.
I suspect that had it not been for Tandy I would not have anything like the knowledge of electronics that I have now.......not that it is that great but a shop that sold individual components laid a solid foundation for me as a child!!!
