hi, used fridge few weeks ago all ok, now when we use it on gas as before it lights but not getting cold? and its never worked on 12v or should i say the switch doesnt light up when 12v switch is flicked on, any help would be great, its an electolux RM4236,

i would think the 12 volt would not come on until the engine has reached a certain number of revs this open the relay and prevents battery damage.

Is the fridge level , they need to be pretty level to work properly .
Our fridge doesn't show that it's working on 12volts ( no light ) , but does work .
I have a manual for a RM4230 if that's any help . http://www.obrienscamping.co.uk/discontinued/RM4236.htm

hi thanks for replys, van  has not been moved since we last used the fridge and is still very level, so casnt understand why its not getting cold in fridge anymore, as i said all was ok untill yesterday when i relit the ignition and that was fine so just left it to its own devices and went back to van 4hours later and fridge was not cold inside at all,

hi again, am i getting this right? the 12v will only work if its plugged into car, i thought it would run off van battery when the i switched fridge on using the 12v switch?

You are correct , your fridge should only run off 12 volt when connected to the car , when on site your fridge should be running on either mains or gas .

when its warm it takes longer to cool, mine took overnight for the fridge to become noticably cold, the freezer bit was cold in about 5 hrs.

agree its hard to tell that a fridge is working without a thermostat.one way is to put your hand over the little vent outside and if it is warm air coming out then the fridge is working.

hi again, tryed the warm air therory but no warm air coming out, but as i said befor fridge ignites and stays lit, but just not getting cold :-(  other week on lighting it, it only took about an hour to notice that the freezer part was getting cold, and its no warmer out side than the last time we used it, so now im stuck as to how to fix it,

What you could try is turning the fridge upside down for 15seconds and then back up right again , try this 2 or 3 times to remix the fridge chemicals .
It will mean you have to remove the fridge see this post Electolux RM4200 No Spark

Sorry to post such a random thing but i feel such a fool, we turned our fridge on when we stopped at a friend's and i thought the fridge was going wrong when i could feel hot air coming out of the top vent :( In the word's of Homer Simpson, D'oh!!!!

Wizard has the anser that works for all gas filled fridges turn it upside down letting the gas move around then youll get a colder fridge

hi thanks for all help, but we now have qanother prob with fridge, there is no spark now, or should i say, it only works now and again, and if ive not pressed gas button in for long enoogh to get bit of gas throu i cant get fridge to light, so please help us solve this problem too thanks for any help

Does it get cold when it's on mains hookup 240v. If the vans at home you will need a 16amp blue socket to 13amp plug adapter. These are available on ebay etc and useful for charging the battery in the van.

hi sorry late reply, but yes weve now tried it on 240v and all works fine so at least we can still use it on ehu sites, but still will not work on gas, no spark still!!!1
