There's an association of them ... all qualified it says on the web-site.

I got hold of a local one who came over, looked at what needed doing and agreed to do it ... took one of my ceiling lights away with him to get a part, measured up for another job that needed doing to the roof panel joints ... and made a note that I was going away in a month's time .... even phoned to say he couldn't fix the light and I'd have to buy a new one. That was the last I heard of him! ... I've been back a month ... I forgot all about it till I was in the caravan this morning and noticed the missing light fitting ... reliable bunch this association! ... anyone else had problems? Trouble is I can't find his card or remember what the web-site was called ... I expect I can find it! ... I promised him end and beginning of season services as well.

Think it'll be easier to drag the thing off to the main dealers in future! ... Mobile van engineers association! ... Laugh a minute!

Just found it ..... www.mobilecaravanengineers.co.uk

Didn't recoginise any names ... maybe he's gone out of business .. wouldn't surprise me! Before I recommend nobody goes near them ... is there a reliable member of this band of brothers anywhere in Hants/Berks/Oxon who wants some business? I live near Newbury ... or am I being silly thinking that a mobile caravan engineer might look at a caravan web-site?

No need to resort to paying Dealer prices. Just get a proper Mobile Engineer from the NCC Approved Workshops List. All the workshops on the list all meet the NCC's approval status and conform to all the standards laid down by all the Caravan Clubs and the NCC guidelines.

Here's a list of the training standards that the workshop has to meet to be approved:   CITO

So, are you saying that all caravan technicians are fully qualified to C.I.T.o. in N.C.C. approved workshops?

Most of that lot looked suspiciously like dealers to me! ... Down my way anyway!

I don't mind taking it to a dealer ... I contacted a member of this 'association' in the first place to save me having to make 2 trips taking it to a dealer and bringing it back ... the cost of the servicing doesn't really matter but I suspect the dealers will cost twice as much ... only guessing but I might be right.

Not the Dealers as they're a law unto themselves. Moreover, if you look at the list to get an NCC Approved Mobile, then as most are one-man bands it goes without saying that the guy who holds all the qualifications is the same guy that owns and runs the workshop and is also the engineer that will come to your house to service or repair your van. Which can't be said for a dealer as they hide their unqualified employee's behind a guise of job descriptions.

Tim my brother used Ian Gibbons on that list to service his caravan when he lived here in Berks and was very pleased with him.

I used a small comapany in Eversley(not a mobile company though) i think it was called Greenham Caravans i'll look it up for sure but i had fantastic service from them. They don't sell caravans they just service them.

Gary at GT Mobile Caravan Services, Abingdon, 07802 495658, that's fairly close to Newbury I think?

While I fully agree that standards in certain instances have in the past been poor, don't tar all the MCEA guys with the same brush?
Many are excellent with highly relevant backgrounds, I deal with quite a few of them and find their knowledge as good as any.

If this "engineer" was claiming to be an MCEA member but he's not on the MCEA web site then you should e-mail the details to services at mcea.co.uk and let the association investigate.

I am an MCEA member so its in my interest to ensure the association upholds high standards.

......... and a further update .........

Garry has just left having turned up on time, which makes a change these days, done the jobs required perfectly, and done a couple of other jobs which I sprang on him while he was here. He also keeps a van load of anything you're ever likely to need.

Can't recommend him highly enough ... if you live within his radius - 50 miles from Oxford - then I suggest you get in touch for all your servicing or repairs.

(No connection other than a satisfied customer ... see original post and Garry's offer above)

My old ABI Marauder II is up in Norhtumberland for the forseeable future. Anybody know of a mobile service up that way that I could use for one or two minor problems?
