A question for the technical ones here. we've just recently had a new Pageant Provence series 7. We had a mover put on it along with a new 110 amp battery. When I picked the van up I asked the chap about the battery & he said it was fully charged. I had doubts about this but it got the van on the drive & I left it at that.

This week, 6 weeks after delivery, I went to check everything was Ok & the battery was as dead as a dodo. I caled the workshop to be infirmed the batteries aren't fully charged when fitted to the vans & it would need a charge.

I put it in my garage on charge for two days & then back on the van plugged in to the mains for two days. The gauge was showing 13.5 volts or thereabouts. I unplugged the van last night, realised this morning that I'd left the master switch on, went out just now & the battery guge is down to 13 volts now. The only other switch on the board that was on was the lights but I couldn't see if the bathroom light was on beause everything is on the floor waiting to be put away.

How long sould this battery remain usable after charging like I've done please??? I thought a big battery like 110amp should last a week on site & I'm wondering if I've got a dud battery.

Considering a large nimber of people must pick up their new van & go straight off to a site to use it, lots of people could end up with a flat battery first day out. We would have done.

Advice would be appreciated.

We picked up our new van complete with a 110 battry fitted and was informed by the dealer that it would need a good mains charging when we got home, as the only power in it was from the short time they had hooked it up to do the testing of the electrical systems. We gave it a charge for about 48hrs, and it worked fine on site all last week which included using the motormover as well. Our last van was fitted with a Zig unit, so what we did find strange with the new one is that the volt meter only shows the amperage whilst connected to the mains, and stays at zero even when the battery is fully charged. we have checked with the dealer and this is just a design feature and not a fault as we first suspected.

hope this helps,

Julia

13 volts is good, don't forget it's a 12v battery. The reason it was showing 13.5 is because the battery was being charged when the mains was connected.

I have a Truma mover which does not hav an isolating switch so it is always on 'standby'. It doesnt use a lot electricity (15mA) but over a long period it soon adds up.. So, if you used the mover to hitch up and again for storage and the battery wasnt fully charged I can see why the battery was flat after 6 weeks.

Just for interest the gauge would show about 13.5 volts when connected to the mains but if you swich it off and leave it for a few hours to settle the a fully charged battery shout read about 12.5 volts.

I just charged mine using an external charger, and get 13.5 volts, which I understand is higher than you get with the on-board charger. But every little helps!

My Truma mover never had a switch it so the battery would run down.
I have fitted an isolating switch £7 job done
