Hi all,

I have a damp problem in my van, a 1989 Abbey Oxford. I have already done one repair in the bathroom which I am fairly happy with. This included replacing rotten wood in the wall and cutting a section ot the floor out and replacing.

The current problem starts around the front door. All the board has softened and the the battons and boards need replacing.

However, the problem continues beyond the front door for most of the living space and the shower wall (next to the front door). None of this really phazes me having done the bathroom repair but the problem I have is a can't see how the top cupboads are fixed. My best guess is that they are screwed down through the roof battons. If this is so I would need to remove the roof first, which I'd like to avoid.

Does anyone know how to remove these cupbords? I also need to remove all the kithen units, which doesn't look easy. Any advice on this too?

Finally, I'd like to buy wall boards with a 'wallpaper' finish rather than a wood finish. Does anyone know where I could buy such an item?

Hi Adam , the cupboard are normally fixed from above with either screws or staples , i wouldn't recommend removing the roof , what you can do is slide a hacksaw blade between the ceiling and cupboard and cut thro the fixings .
The kitchen units shouldn't be mega difficult to remove , but you should make sure you have the electric and gas reconnected by a professional . One thing to bear in mind is that the kitchen will provide stiffness to the caravan wall so by removing it the wall may flex , if you can support the ceiling before or straight after removing the kitchen , this will take some of the pressure off the wall , and try to not have the kitchen unconnected from the wall for to long . If your kitchen unit incorperates the fridge you will need to remove this first , and when removing you'll need to take the outside fridge vents off .
