Hello all,

I am unsure what pressure I should be working with - can anyone please advise?

I have just replaced all three tyres to the specification listed in the caravan manual: 175r14 99

The manual states:
Tyre pressure at DECLARED MTPLM (1353kg): 55 psi
Tyre pressure at POSSIBLE MTPLM (1500kg): 65 psi

I thought that the van should not weigh more than the declared MTPLM so they should be 55psi. But the tyres I removed were set to 65psi in previous services.

The max pressure as printed on the tyre itself is 65psi.

Any help appreciated.

Regards

Rich

Swift have recently and sensibly been fitting tyres that 'comfortably' carry the original weight of the van, they've alway offered, (in some cases), an 'upgrade' on the MTPLM should you require it, this in the past would automatically also have required a change to stronger tyres

Changing now only involves supplying a new weight plate where the declared MTPLM is increased, in your case to 1500kg, to my mind they have simply, (perhaps over simply), covered both options in the manual.

My pressure book shows 55psi to be bang on for 1336kg and 65psi for 1550kg

In truth then and nothing to do with you, an increase in MTPLM to 1500kg would still require 185R14 tyres with a 102 load index to maintain the original safety margin!!

Thanks Gary,

I think I am reading you correctly, that if I keep my weight to the Declared MTPLM of 1353kg then I am OK to stick with 55 psi on my 175r14 99 tyres.

Regards

Richard

Yes 55psi is correct for the weight of your van
