I seem to recall Wizard having a go at this but I can't find it on his website.

Perhaps he'll be along later.

Apologies Wizard if it wasn't you.

Simple, you could get one of these :)

Linky

Or build a remote one with a CT Coil and either digital/Analogue meter :)

It was my post, Wizard got one two.

http://cgi.ebay.com/20V-50A-DC-BLUE-LED-Solar-COMBO-Panel-Amp-Voltmeter_W0QQitemZ250485170941QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_BOI_Electrical_Test_Measurement_Equipment_ET?hash=item3a521462fd&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262

This is a digital voltmeter/ammeter, but not temperature sense. It is self powered from the same source that it is measuring.

I would use a momentary push button to work it, that way it cannot be left on accidentally. You can get these from Maplins. I doubt also that you would want this thing glowing all night.

Mine has been working well for 18 months now.

Hope that helps.

If you are capable, try making one yourself. Have a look here:

http://www.ccis.com/home/mnemeth/12volt/12volta.htm

Hope the link works! You will have to scroll down to find the project. Some useful stuff for those of us inclined to do our own thing!

You will probably get all you need to construct one from Maplins or RS.

If you are not able to make one yourself then please buy a ready made one and get it installed by a professional as it's not worth the risk, even though we are talking 12 volts dc.

I have two panel meters , one measures volts and is powered from the battery it's checking , the other is a amp meter, this has it's own power supply 8 x 1.5 volts batterys , i did try to power it from the caravan battery ( source it was checking ) and it blew the meter . Bought another meter and thinking i'd wired it wrong did the same again and blew that one too , but from what i can remember i managed to repair that one, with some of the bits from the first meter .
