The wood used in most modern caravans is usually 12mm or 8mm ply. This is much lighter than standard ply. You may be able to get some of the right finish from Magnum at Grimsby or O'Leary Motorhomes at Hull. Alternatively, you can use 3mm ply with lath for the core.

Thanks for replies folks.
I like the idea of ply with a vinyl covering. I see how this would work. I also like the idea of drilling hole through to make it lighter.
If this doesn't work I will look at breakers.
I was planning on using something like piano hinges to mount it and the support what do you think?
