Hi All,

Firstly, just to say I've been reading this website for the last few weeks and it's probably the most informative place for caravan repars there is.  It's inspired me to repair our recently aquired 1988 Lunar Ariane which is suffereing from a bit of damp.

What's the latest thinking on sealing up awning rails?  I've read that people recommend tape mastic and Sikaflex 512 together?  Some recommend just Sikaflex 512 and my local caravan repair shop recommend Geocel Geobond HM (which I've used for re-sealing some roof vents and seems to work well) but it's pricey at £10.00 a tube.

Thoughts please anyone?

Hi Charlie Caravan welcome to UKCS , personally i would use roll mastic and finish off with Sikaflex 512 .

But you could also use Tigerseal , i've used this for sealing a lower rail on my caravan and it's good stuff , i may even use this to do my awning rails in the future .

Hi Charlie Caravan , the mastic on a roll i used was slightly smaller than the rail width , then i went down the edges with sikaflex to improve the finish and seal ( not that roll mastic wouldn't have been good enough on it's own , just wanted it that bit extra ) .

Michael , i had a in depth chat with a caravan dealer about Tigerseal , he told me it was what they used when repairing caravans and they wouldn't be using it if it wasn't any good , he didn't realise i wanted it for caravan repairs , i was actually buying it off ebay for a different reason , i've since used it for my caravan resealing and it's pretty good stuff imo .
