Hi all, had our caravan for about 6 weeks, 1990 eccles corel, anyway done all the small jobs, water heater, locker door, etc, now have found 2 damp problems.
1. front windows leaking into locker, looks like this has been repaired in past, but there is no mastic on window
seals, wood behind seals is soaking but not rotten, so have covered front of van and letting them dry
2.After checking door side of van , bottom edge of wall on outside is rotten not wet but rotten and need to be replaced , is this just the support for the edge of floor and can i replace it from the out side. The whole door side of van does look bowed so prob have to take sink and cooker out anyway.

Have looked on wizards site, great site. has anyone replace the wood i am on about, its under the skirting rail

thank

Tony

yes did mine on my avondale.i removed the door and dicovered that timber you are on about was rotten. i removed the awning skirt rail.under this through the aly skin were some 75mm screws i removed these. then from under the van i carefully chiselled off the timber that didnt fall off.the new piece of timber had a run of sikaflex applied to the top and both sides to seal. and this held it in place until i re screwed the timber.fairly quick and easy job.

Similar on our Eccles Whirlwind 1995. On the left hand side the (thin!!) ally fairing forward of the wheel tapers to the front, and there is a tapered piece of wood beneath it which at the front is a bit weak. When I recently took the front and rear fairings and the wheel arch and skirt rail off to reseal it all, I noticed that the area of flooring where the tapered wood piece attaches is a bit soft but not rotten. Also this is only over the outer inch or so along a length of about six inches. Future plans are in mind to graft in a repair.

Hi Tony , looking at the pictures i have a feeling that the floor maybe fixed to the wood in your pictures , with the fixings under the alloy skin , so it maybe a challange to replace completely .

I'm wondering , could you maybe cut along the length of the timber that you can see ( nice straight cut needed ) ( so you cut out most of the rot ) and then fix a new piece of timber in place , glue it and screw it into the old timber above ( treat it with wood preserver before fitting ).
