Hello,

Doing a little bit of work on my 2004 Avondale at the moment and the time is coming for me to remove and replace the awning rails, but what i'm wondering is, is if i should buy new screw cover rubber trims or clean the old ones up and stick them back in.  I saw on another site that someone said that these trims are only cosmetic anyway.

Appreciate any suggestions...

i may be wrong but i think they help protect the screws and help prevent water ingress thro screw holes.just bought 25 mtrs for my brothers caravan £13.50.its a lot easier to insert new than re instate the old.

Cleaning is a bit of a nightmare & you will probably find some perished. Replacing is a better option and improves the van no end. I think it is purely cosmetic.

Cheapest appears to be Magnum motorhome and caravan supplies. I intend to order some

You will need quite a lot!

http://www.waudbys.co.uk/?search=awning+insert only problem is they only sell in 100metre rolls for £30.

its much easier to replace them just remember to keep them alittle long as they tend to shrink abit.

Thanks everyone, I'll order some tomorrow them, is it all in standard widths? I'll guess I could order the 100 metres and sell the rest on ebay....

It does come in different widths. You need to check. Much cheaper than my offering - it sells for £1 metre on ebay.

Hi Louise, how are you getting on?  Sent you an email a week ago - hope you got it okay (wasn't sure I'd remembered your email address correctly!).  We ordered ours from Waudby's.  They sold it in 25m lengths when we bought it but my brother-in-law has just ordered the 100m length for his Rialto and it is definitely the right one. I'd definitely replace!  The caravan looked so much better when we got the new strip in.  What a difference.  When Dave put our strip in he used a hairdryer to warm up 10-15cm sections before feeding it in a bit at a time.  It goes in a LOT easier when it's warmed up.  We tried feeding it in directly from a bucket of very warm water but it was a nightmare holding the bucket up for him whilst he tried to feed it in.  Hairdryer is definitely the way to go.  Good luck!  Email me an update if you get a chance!  Natalie

P.S. Don't forget to leave extra at each end and leave it to cool before you fix it in place.  You'll be suprised how much it shrinks when it cools after the hairdrying!
