hi all,

any suggestions for this: I am staying in my caravan (compass echo 1997) at present, and was surprised by the cold, in Yorks hills, I seemed to have some water in the pipes from sinks (bathroom and kitchen when the frost came - now the pipes are frozen shut. I tried pouring boiling hot water down, but it simply remained in the sink and cooled down there. I have also tried to pour salt (cooking) salt down the pipes - possible result from that may not yet show. Not sure whether it could work.

Any other ideas?

get yorur heating up full pelt

I in mine down in retford around :;-2 I think no probs and aqualroll ok mind u that on a wooden shower step type thing and polistyrene and then two thermal jackets around it with pump pipe through sleeves and foam insulation around that

the frozen bit will be under the van and if your van is properly insulated putting the heating up will only have a very slow affect. Putting hot water down will only cool rapidly and add to the problem.

Without getting heat under the van I'd be inclined to use a bucket until the salt or mother nature does the job

when my two drain pipes froze at keswick i found that it was only the end parts that were frozen.i removed most of the ice with a long peg and then it started to flow.my fault for having a full container in frost.

I had same problem at Chatsworth before xmas .

 I had not taken insulation for water butt and left pump im overnight .

 I was packing up and couldn't get the hot water tank to drain out because there was still cold water somewhere in the system. I was really worried because I didn't w ant burst pipes or damage to heater as the van goes to a farm when not in use

 Inm the end I  pumped through v hot water AND had little blow heater on in locker where the cold inlet is  not sure which one worked but suspect it was the blow heater . Will try to remember insulation for water butt this time . We made one out of the stuff you put under laminate floors and it works really well. We used in in the locjkers of our old van which wans't well insulated and it made a real difference

Hi bschaefer, you could use some metholated spirits as its only in the waste pipes,

will melt the ice without the sudden change in temp. flush with luke warm water and check for leaks. John
