I am about to sell our Sprite Musketeer (bought second hand), but I can't locate the paperwork and I'm not sure of the date of manufacture, although it must be around 10 years old. Does anyone know how I can find out how old it is please? Is there a serial number somewhere? Anthing else that will help me?
There should be a little metal plate near the door, low down, which has things like min/max weight and it should also have a serial number. If you can find that number and post it here I am sure someone will be able to identify the model year.

If it says that it is a Sprite then it is at the latest 1995 as from 1996 Swift took over Sprite leisure and renamed the vans Sterling. If you can post a photograph of it taken from the side it is quite easy to say whether it is a 1994 or 1995 van as the shape of the rear end changed in 1994. So if it looks like this sprite at the back top rear corner then it is 1994 or 1995 if it is more rounded ( they caled it a threepenny bit shaped back end then it could be as early as 1985 (or somewhere around then )

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
havn`t sprite always done their windows? or at least for a long time, mine was definatly an 88, and the windows were all still etched with the serial No.
No, that will have been done by a previous owner. Neither my 1989 Major nor my 1991 Musketeer had the chassis or serial numbers etched on the windows.
With the advent of CRIS in 1992 all vans had their windows etched with the CRIS number.
The OP's van is most definately a lot more than 10 years old as no Sprites were built after Swift took over CI - until they resurrected the name, but with no Musketeer model. The newest Musketeer I have ever seen was a 1993 model.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
Thank you to everyone who helped me out with this. The windows are etched, so it must be after 92 but before 95 - the number is 5GU500 CUP0931043. Does that give an exact date please? Regards Anna
You can also use the CRiS number to check some details on the caravan yourself. To help explain what the CRiS number means, take for example the number below:
SGAT000AV50001234
SGAT000AV50001234 Year of manufacture (5 = 2005) - see below for codes SGAT000AV50001234 Serial number
Year of manufacture codes:
N = 1992
1 = 2001
P = 1993
2 = 2002
R = 1994
3 = 2003
S = 1995
4 = 2004
T = 1996
5 = 2005
V = 1997
6 = 2006
W = 1998
X = 1999
Y = 2000
