Hi folks,

anyone made their own bunk??

I have an old abi caravan with a double at the back and i want to put in a bunk above it across the width of the caravan.

I'm pretty handy but I'm not sure what is best to use - wood frame?  metal frame?  Trying to keep weight down obviously.

If you've got a bunk in your van can you let me know what it's made of and how it attaches?

Also, if anyone is breaking a van with a bunk that would be even better!

I have a bailey 500/5 if like i could take photo's of ours and send them to wizard who will put them on for me.this bunk is one that pulls up over the double bed.most of it is wood based and sides with a metal frame to support the bed that folds out.without this you would need a lot of heavy secure fittings onto the walls at sides and rear.or a strong 2x2 battons fixed to the wall with lots of screws and glued.

if L shaped on the battons at the front the front panel could be fixed to this.and the half inch ply to fit dropped in screwed and glued.just the weight factor???

if its right at the back you might have to see what effect it will have on the nose weight

yes i need to keep weight down to keep nose weight ok. might just need to make sure i load right to compensate.

thanks wizard!  looks like wood all the way across and just metal for the supports and brackets at the sides?  looks like the way to go i think.
