After 7 months of rebuilding a very wet shed on wheels I thought I'd finished and got myself a nice 'van.  Took it to the farm where I've been paying storage fees for all the time it's been sitting on the drive and took it on a trip around the lanes on the way to see how the car handled it.

For the last couple of miles I started to hear a creaking noise behind me.  As I pulled into the storage yard it was getting really loud.  Turns out the A frame fairing is rubbing on the bottom of the body (gas locker).  Surely the body hasn't dropped during the journey!

Didn't have time to investigate there and then and it looks as though I won't be able to get over there this weekend. Just wondered if some one out there has experienced the same thing?

havent experienced this myself but it could be something as simple as loose fairing or even a loose gas locker.i would've thought the body dropping would be unlikely.Had you checked the a frame or chassis for signs of heavy corrosion?

dropped,no would not have thought so on our bailey the A fairing touches the body at the front.more inclined to think some dirt has got in.you could fit a thin rubber strip under the front panel opening.

Thanks to every one for their input.  Once this snow has cleared I'll take a trip up to the farm and take a look.  When I was renewing the front corner timbers I had the floor of the gas locker out.  Just wondering if I put it back in properly (was a pig of a job).  Might try insulating the fairing from the body.

Thanks again

I can't help only add to your worries but I remember reading one post on a forum where the caravan shell was coming loose from the chassis causing it to move up and down.

Unfortunately I can't remember the full detail.

Apologies if I'm alarming you unneccesarily.

I noticed a similar noise on my caravan on a recent trip.

When we left for the site it was fine, then about an hour into the journey it began to creek. I'm still not sure if its the van or the towbar as the nuts on it touch the bumber on the car.

When we left the site the same happened again, the noise began about an hour into the journey.

I too will have a look when the weather clears but its a the back of my mind and has been since we stored it for winter.

I hope you solve your queries and look forward to your feedback.

Have you got an Alko stabiliser?

Sussed it!!

Been up to the storage farm today to see what I could find.  The L/H side of the gas locker floor wasn't sitting properly and was rubbing on the bottom of the body.  Not sure if when I had it out to renew the corner timbers that I didn't put it back in properly.  It was a pig of a job to get back in.  Failing that.  It popped out of place driving down the country lanes to the farm.  Doubt it somehow.

Anyway.  Can now sleep at night and look forward to our first outing with the van in the coming weeks.
