My Truma Rapid Ultrastore will not work on gas. When I rotate the switch to turn the heater this is what happens:-

There is a click sound and the green light illuminates. Immediately there is a second click and the red light illuminates as well as the green.

I have purged the gas line. I have cleaned the terminals in the bottom purple box component on the pcb. I have warmed the pcb to eliminate the possibility of damp.

Even when the pcb is removed from the base connections the same click/ light sequence occurs.

Any ideas gratefully received

Have you removed the cover on the outside?

There is a drain pipe located at the bottom right hand side of the flu, it can get clogged up. It is a condensation drain for the burner, I've found it clogged on quite a few vans I service

bit like the calor gas pipes and regulators.still think this is or was a condensation problem.we used to get it on oil breather pipes of car engines when we stripped them down many years ago.

The drain will stop a large build up of water but it's main purpose is to drain split gas from the heater and stop that building up.

I'm not sure what's wrong but assuming the outer vent cover is removed then the easiest way to start is to swap the control board and see if that cures it.

From what you say it's failing after a very few seconds?
the red light should be after a period when after the clunk of the gas valve opening, you should hear several seconds of the spark ticking and then another clunk as the valve shuts, and finally the red light comes on

Gary,

There doesn't seem to be a clunk from the gas valve. There is no sound of sparking. If the rotary knob is turned very slowly there are the two separate clicks and lights as described above but if is turned at "normal" speed then the clicks sound as one and both lights appear instantaneously. Where would the best place be to source a replacement control board ?

If your not getting a clunk it could be any number of things solenoid valve coil or the cable harness control panel not just the board, if you want I can send you a copy of my trouble shooting flow chart from my Truma manual email if you want a copy.

I would imagine you are hearing a couple of relays clicking on the control board? so it's trying to work but I think the start cycle timer has reduced to zero seconds.
Problem for me is I purposely have little to do with the ultrastor, I don't know all the faults off the top of my head!


New control board are available through any dealer but I was suggesting you borrow one first to try it, this will prove your board at fault first as their far from cheap!.
I do though have several boards so maybe I can post one out for you to try?

I know where there is an identical caravan that's very near me. I wonder if I can convince them to let me borrow their pcb. We'll see.

Well after trying various electrical checks. (Thanks Peter) I removed the circuit board and put it on a radiator for 2-3 days to thoroughly dry it out. I 've reassembled the heater and guess what?  It's working again. So if it keeps on working this has been a simple fix to a potentially expensive problem. It must be worth a go if you have have problems with your water heater. But why does it have to be so relaint on the electronics? It's only a kettle after all!

Well done sounds like you could have a dirty contact on either the board or socket. If it does it again take the board out and spray it and the socket with electrical cleaner, and don't worry I don't charge for giving advice but if i get any of my tools out £££££££

I have just joined this forum and unsure if this topic is stll live. I have just bought a 2005 Bailey Ranger 500-5 and have a similar problem on the gas water heater. On electric it is fine. I have checked all electrics, the pcb (warmed it also) and the external flue under the cowl which is removed. Symptoms are: switch on, clunk after a few seconds and then red light appears with another clunk about 10 seconds later. There is no clicking sound. Is this a igniter problem? Any thoughts gratefully accepted.
