I appear to have a battery problem which no one else has encountered. I have recently bought a 2003 Swift Fairway 390 which the previous owner assured me had just had a new battery. This seemed to be borne out by the fact that the van had been moved from the rear of his property to the front, a quite considerable distance, using the motormover and then put on my drive using the same method. After sitting on my drive for two weeks, the van was taken off my drive using the mover with no problem. Van towed to site in Snowdonia with both 12n and 12s plugs attached, fridge on. Battery condition indicator well in the green prior to hooking up to mains. Everything working OK. On the second night on site, we noticed the 12v lights getting dim and the water pump stopped working. The battery condition indicator was now in the red. Switched everything off and went to bed. In the morning the battery indicator had moved up into the orange, so obviously recovering. Checked for any blow fuses but none discovered. Time to go home, so van hooked up and dragged home. After two hours driving, I got in the van to check if battery was charging through the car and indicator was now well in the green. On arriving home, van was manoeuvred onto drive using motormover and after four days sat on drive, battery indicator is still in the green. It is my assumption that both the 12v and 240v charging systems go through the same charger on the van on the way to the battery. Am I wrong? If so, what is going on?
