when we put our van away for the winter we made sure everything was clean, we disconnected the battery and cleaned the terminals etc, when we went yesterday to check her over the battery was still nice and clean but the connectors were rusted solid (we have those quick release type) I had forgot to put vaseline on them, what i want to know is would this have stopped it happening ? and can i coat all the batt terminals in vaseline and then connect the batt or must i wipe the terminals clean first, sorry if i sound thick but i never disconnect my car batt and that doesnt fur up. many thanks Bill

The quick release terminals should not have rusted they are supposed to be made from copper or at least copper plated.vaseline is the correct lubricant to use as it is conductive & prevents corrosion from forming on the battery lugs
I have the quick release connectors on my van & have never had any problems
Hi All, sorry i did'nt get back to you but the other half has been hogging the laptop lol, The battery terminals were fine it was the quick release connectors that I had taken off and stored in the battery box that had rusted, I tried to clean them but no chance so i have taken them off alltogether and bought some new ones. We'll be going to the storage this week to give the van an airing so i'll take some vasoline and cover the terminals with it and also the inside of the connectors before i fit them. many thanks for your replys.

Gaffer Tape for something that shoudn't move but does
Vaseline for something you can't see move but which should move
