We bought a new Bailey Pageant Bretagne in 2007, and looked after it up until 3 weeks ago when the in laws accidentally smashed into the front.  We have had 2 quotes and the assessor from the insurers out to see it.  We are now worried that after it is repaired it will be prone to leaks as it need a whole new front, and the awning rails etc have to be replaced.  The assessor said this is likely. Has anyone had a similar problem???

slightly different but 2 years ago some dingbat side swiped my caravan and ripped the whole offside not only that but I swerved when he hit me and did the other side of the van. as the van was still under warranty 1 insisted that the repair is carried out by either the dealer I bought it from or another bailey dealer. The insurers agreed it was better to have it repair by a dealer who knew the make of caravan and could get the original part. no leaks and I check it every six months (well I'm in the Trade and have £200 damp meter)

an I'd report what the assessor said to who ever hired him, cause the guy is a muppet. how the h**l can an assessor dare to make that kind of statement.

if done correctly by a dealer there should be no problem with water ingress.

I'd take it up with the insurance company and insist on a warranty in view of what their assessor said.  If it is not repairable properly it should be written off.

Are you still speaking to the inlaws? or are they now the outlaws?

Cheers for the comments, the inlaws are still just that. (It was a genuine accident and no one was hurt).

The quotes are both from Bailey dealers, so I suppose all we can do is keep checking regularly once fixed. We were thinking of trading it in for new once fixed but that would be a pretty expensive accident!!! We were originally hoping the van would last us years.

ask for a warranty on the repairs ,im sure your insurance will want one anyway.
