Hi, I have just done my 1997 Vanmaster bathroom I peeled the vinyl off leaving a thin layer of backing paper which was well and truely stuck to the plywood, even when wetted. I left it on for better adhesion. It works!
I used a strong mix of Solvite Extra and a good quality vinyl paper. It didn't take long and looks tons better. Because I bought a reasonable quality "slightly embossed type" Italian vinyl no imperfections show through. Cos its fiddley make sure you have a new sharp stanley knife to achieve neat edges. I bought one of the smaller knives to help in those awkward places.
Hope this helps.
