If you mean something like this you have to push the outer ring firmly against the fitting and pull. push fitting

I'm also hitting the same issue here and I've got the same push fit adapter as on the web page quoted.
However, the outer ring seems to not want to move backwards towards the fitting. Is it a case of having to be quite brutal with the fitting?? I do not want to damage anything.
I guess I am not getting the 'knack' but wondered if there are any hints and tips. The caravan is a 4yr old sprite but this is my first time wintering it having bought it in the summer.

I find it best to apply equal pressure to opposite sides of the ring as it will jam if the ring gets lop sided, also make sure that the pipe is aligned to the fitting properly i.e. parallel to the sides of the fitting's hole - they are good fittings but can be a pain at times when they are in a difficult to get at place
