I would use a product designed for use on caravans. Use Sikaflex 512 caravan, if whatever you are sticking down will not have to be removed in the future.
If for instance on my caravan, the fridge vents may have to be removed to gain access to the rear of the fridge, I use Seamseal/Caraseal IDL99 or similar. These mastics have very little adhesive qualities (unlike Sikaflex which bonds and also stays flexible)so they are easier to remove if necessary at a later date.
W4 roll mastic, would also be suitable, but not as easy to use on the round housing.
I don't think plumbers mate is any good for this job, I use W4 mastic on a roll as what's left lasts for other jobs, or IDL99 is ok but what's left goes off, don't use anything though that prevents you getting it off at a later date.
im not sure what bit you are going to replace but plumbers mait shouldnt be used on drinking water.if its a screw on part use thread tape there is a paste that is ok for drinking water but cant think what its called.
