A Pitsburg Joint is there for the purposes of creating a good seal by folding part of one sheet of metal over another to hold them together in a kind of sandwich. Have a look at the top of you can of peas next time you open one and you will see that the lid was folded over the sides of the can to seal it. So they use can of peas technology in the construction of caravans!!!!!
Sounds from your description as though the sandwich has been opened and the two sheets of metal need to be pressed back into position (perhaps)

Designer. Is the damp in the bathroom around the cistern? A pitsburg joint is used to join the upper and lower exterior aluminium sheets. On Avondales and many other makes the cistern filler is placed on this join. The join around the filler has leaked on ours causing damp which is going to be fixed next month.
Hi ujohn. Iam having the job done as 2 kids under 5 and no time due to our work patterns. I am confident that with the wizzards website and my quite good hands and engineering background i could do the job [ and of course Michaels endless links] but time simply does not allow it.The viscious time versus money circle, but happy to still be earning whilst many are without work.
Dont be put off of giving it a go. There are many people using this forum to give you guidance. At the end of the day a caravan is fairly simply constructed, common sense and practical skills, with guidance will see you through.
Hi bigtimz,Thanks for your reply. I will keep reading and picking up tips and knowledge. I will put it all in to practice as soon as we have a dry spell.
Thanks
Ujohn

Hi,hope you don't mind me hijacking your thread, but my OH is in the process of sorting the damp in our Argente 640/6,we thought it was coming in through the awning rail but he has just removed the wall board and it look's like it is coming in through the joint that has been mentioned,it is at the front near side.If it is the joint in question how would we(well oh) have to do to make sure it is sealed properly.
