We experienced a problem with our Carver 3000S Fanmaster heater over the weekend and I am hoping that someone on these forums will be able to give me some advice as to possible ways to fix it.
The heater, which is fitted to a 1994 Shift Challenger 530 SE, basically no longer heats up the air when using electric heating. The air still circulates as normal but it is cold. The heater works perfectly fine on gas.
The heater seemed to have stopped working at the same time as we were experienced a number of problems with the electrics on the caravan site (we lost electricity a number of times due to the site supply being overloaded over the busy Easter weekend). This may or may not have caused the problem.
We have tried to reset the thermal overload switch, which is suppose to be on the side of the actual heater, near where the electricity suppply come in (at least according to the Hayes caravan manaual) but despite the fact that everything looked and felt exactly like the picture in the handbook, we just could not find any switch to reset. I am not sure whether this is because the switch had not actually tripped or we were doing something wrong/ looking in the wrong place.
I have also replaced the Fanmaster fuse but that did not make any difference either.
Can anyone give me any further advice as to how I can resolve this?
Hi
We switched in the fanmaster heater switch, along with the fan, as usual. It was working but must have stopped at some point duing the day. It hasn't happened before, and I was hoping it was just something simple such as a reset button.
The Reset is Here problem with a 95 model is it might not have a reset but a 'thermal fuse'. It will look exactly the same as in the picture but the flap to press is not cut out so does not move at all.
If this is the case, the fuse will need replacing, I have reset switch upgrade kits to do the job.
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I am getting an error when accessing your link. It does, however, sound like we have the model without a reset switch. Everything felt and looked the same as in the Caravan Manual, complete with an area where we knew the reset switch should be. However, there is just nothing to press.
How do we obtain a "reset switch upgrade kit" from you and are they difficult to fit ?
In your opinion, is this likely to be the problem, given the circumstances. Everything else seems to be working fine but I am aware that the heater is getting old and we have used it a lot over the last couple of years, in some quite extreme winter weather ;)
The problem is why it tripped out or blew the fuse? I doubt though the sites problems had anything at all to do with it.
My opinion is it's 16 years old and worn, the fan motor especially, also the housing is full of years of fluff and dust, that together with the worn motor is most probably why it overheated.
If then it does not already have a reset switch conversion fitted, then in truth it's done really well to get this far!
Top and the bottom of it is it needs full overhaul, best then to email me direct for the options and costs
