I am amazed at the cost to install an additional electrice socket to a 2 year old bailey caravan. I am informed the £295 would cover installation and certification which would comply with warranty and insurances. Surely their must be a cheaper alternative that will satisfy all parties ??
I've asked my Oh to fit additional sockets for me. I never even thought about the warranty. He's a fully qualified spark and can certify the work. So do you think that would be OK
Why not fit the socket as a trailing lead by putting a double adapter in the fridge/microwave socket etc and have a surface socket to match the van on the other end
That way its just an extension
You should use 3 core flexible cable as installed in the van
I always use that method when fitting an external 230V socket usually using a lead saved from an old appliance with 3 core cable such as a washing macnine etc
Extension strips are fine when you want to plug in stuff like phone chargers, but for something that you use a lot, like the kettle or the TV, you really want to have something "fixed".
I like John's suggestion, ideal if you are worried about warranty issues.
mine i fitted a extension lead x 4 sockets at the front socket under the bed.this was fixed to the side wall.from there i took one outside through the floor to a fixed socket at the rear of the van for the laptop.one goes to the outside socket, one goes to the lamp.one goes to a fixed socket at the front for phone charging.a good system as all are individually fused including the extension lead.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
we have a new bailey olympus on order and the dealer quoted us £75 for an external socket, we are also having an extra aerial socket near the front window. expect that to be a similar price.
I spoke to Bailey in Bristol today. It would appear as long as I can get an electrician to issue a certificate, I dont have to get the additional sockets fitted at a bailey dealers. I believe the certificate is an expensive item, so I will get a quote and report back
Not if as in my original post you put a double adapter in the existing Fridge/microwave socket before plugging in the extension which can then have its outlet where you want it rather than in a cupboard as the fridge and microwave ones are
