My thetford fridge N80 PL is not working on electricity.

It works fine if I run it on gas but electricity NOTHING!!!

I have heat coming through the vent at the back of the fridge but no refrigeration at all inside the fridge. Anybody have any ideas what could be the cause??

I don't particularly want to be ripped off for a new fridge if this is a simple fault.

Asking Gary is the best bet

I have seen in the past a N80 fridge advertised on eBay not working and the seller describing this problem with it - first the 230v stopped working, then the 12 volt and finally the gas - he was told it needed a new exchanger (whatever that was supposed to be)

But as I say Gary might be able to help you a bit more than a second hand seller story from eBay

Is there normally an indicator light when running on mains. Is it on. If not the MCB feeding that circuit may have tripped or the fuse in the plug feeding the fridge may have gone.

As it runs on gas the refrigeration side should be OK so hopefully its either the element or the power supply.

The N80 has two electric heating elements, one 12volt and one mains - i would be very suprised if they both do not work at the same time.

Check to see if the fridge works on 12volt, if it does then as Navver said first check that the fuses and MCB is ok. if they are ok then it could be the 240v element has failed, they are not exspensive but can be a pain to change if space at the rear of the fridge is limited.

If you need any more help give me a shout back - I am not that far from you - i could come over and test if you like.

Hi  NiL6263 did you have any luck sorting out your fridge problem? we are now experiencing the same problem with our Thetford fridge. It works on gas but when on EHU nothing.. One of the heaters in the back is getting hot, but im not sure if they both should? Any advice appreciated.

Hi Rusty,

you don't say which model fridge you have?

Both elements in the rear work independently one for 12 Volt and the other for 240volt ie on Hook up.

if you are working fine on Gas then the exchanger can be taken as ok - it is possible that the element has become dislodged - ie it is heating but is not located next to the exchanger?

I am in Sunny Norfolk - so its possible if you want that i could come and take a look for you if you can not sort it out.

Hi,

It turned out to be just where it had been standing for so long.

Once we had used it on gas for a couple of weekends it started working fine on electric.

A lesson to be learned from. Always have a couple of days on gas from time to time after winter storage to get everything circulating inside again...

My Thetford fridge has the same symptoms. Nothing on Electric, no codes etc. Run it on gas for a couple of hours then switch it back to Mains and it runs fine for a few weeks then we have to go through the same routine again.
