my mover started playing up by only moving the van on one side or not at all. had new tyres fitted when the van was serviced and the guys said that the rollers were not as close to the tyre as they should be and altered them for me. initially couldnt get the mover to work. towed the van on a weekend away and the mover slowly worked for about 10 foot when we got back. now it wont budge the van. the little red light comes on on the hand remote but no whiring or anything to say it wants to even attempt a move. is it something very stupid or have i got to cough up a lot od dosh to get it sorted. want to try and sort it myself before calling the service guys out again in case its a pathetic issue

Hi yfandes,
the main unit fitted in the van should have a re-set button or something of similar. If you have the paper work on your mover then check this first, also you may see some LED's flashing at you when you find the main unit, which you can look up in the paper work you have to tell you what is wrong. Or it could be its blown the main fuse. Most motor movers come with a setting block so when the mover is fitted you use the setting block to obtain the correct distance from the wheels, if this is not used you can overheat the motors or the mover wheels just scrub the tyres and don't not turn them.

Also when you press the reset button, don't forget to "pair" the handset with the control unit again, it may be as simple as this if they have some how become separated. This would make your handset send a signal hence the red light, but the control unit wouldn't hear it as it doesn't reconise it until its paired correctly. Also check handset batteries....all the obvious things things first.

What type of mover is it? If you go to the manufacturers website, you may be able to get a missing manual or advice?

Can you try the mover before you engage the rollers on the wheels?

If so do either motors turn whilst they are not engaged? This may help in determining if its a mechanical or electrical fault.

Is your battery ok? We had a problem with ours and the dealer said the first thing they do is check the battery. It was low!!

When mine won't work, it's always been the battery.

It might still work the lights, but not have enough charge to use the mover, so give it a really good charge.

If it's borderline on charge it moves the van a bit, then goes dead, I just wait a few seconds for it to recover and we get a few more feet.

Ours was the battery last year. The motor mover would just click but no movement from the van. I replaced the van battery with a higher amp battery and now it works perfectly.

The old battery still worked and powered the lights & water pump but it just didn't have enough oomph to move the motor mover. I donated it to a friend who didn't have a motor mover and it still works a year on !!!!

handset can be low and red light comes on the power is not strong enough to send a message to the control unit in the van   happened to me last year and the guy next to me put me right   had about a hundred new batteries in a box  just incase he said  wow

Leisure battery in the caravan is favourite. I have also had a loose connection on the back of the isolator switch. Check the battery is fully charged and that the connections are tight.

Don't just rush out and buy another battery. The plates on batteries tend to sulphate up. If they get a GOOD charge overnight with a POWERFUL charger (say 8 amps), they very often go back to be as good as new.

My battery supplier won't supply leisure batteries any more , because so many of us tried to get new ones under guarantee, when all they needed was this good charge (which he did as a sign of good faith)

Good point.

I did not mean that the leisure battery needed replacing but to check the charge/connections. A fully charged battery should have 13.7 volts. This will drop slightly when the motor mover tries to move the van assuming all connections okay.

I also suggest you check the contacts on the suspect motor, these are exposed to a lot of water and can corrode up. Just a suggestion!!
