Our 'van has lovely carpet in it, however, it's a very pale cream colour and with 2 kids and 2 JRs it's never going to stay that way I've bought stick on tiles to replace the main 'thoroughfare' and want to keep the carpet where the seating areas are.
Now I need to know what can I use where the tiles meet the carpet? Bit like this threshold thing obviously it's fine in a house but would it be ok to screw it to the caravan floor? Or would I be better just to remove all the carpet?
We had this problem with our '92 Cyclone. Our solution was to cut some carpet offcuts to shape (3 pieces), get the edges bound and lay these over the fitted carpet, held in place with press studs. Binding cost around £25.
I put one of those threshold thing s on mine when I did exactly the same job. I used short screws and its been perfectly ok but I would not do it if any warranty was involved.
There are plenty of screws already in your floor so a few more will not matter.
The screw with plate are around an inch long and usually made of aluminium so they don't rust so i would put some shorter ones in if you can, don't worry too much the ply is quite thick, but don't buy any with bigger heads as it won't be nice for bare feet.
I am a carpet fitter and done many caravans including my own a couple of months ago changing the carpet for vinyl and just a loose runner down the middle for winter
If you can cut neatly all round the edges of the carpet then remove it carefully, (assuming it is in good condition and you like it) you could cut it across into 2 or 3 sensible sized pieces and have it bound so you can drop it into place where and when you want it.
Then lay vinyl or tiles over the whole floor for easy cleaning. Most new vans are done that was these days I think.
Hi Andi,
Have a look at how I did my New carpet and vinyl. The strip for joining the carpet and vinyl had a cover so that there were no screws visible, nothing to catch the feet on.

Well done looks a good job,yes there are quite a few different strips available in various finishes.
Took me longer to get the old carpet up than fit the new vinyl as it was fastened down with hundreds of small staples that are put in with an air gun.My Avondale has a well in the floor for the spare wheel and they got really carried away fastening the carpet down the edges, its a wonder there was any wood left.
Worth it in the end as we have a big hairy dog and its much easier to keep clean.
Oh I never thought of those ones Lawrence! I nipped out earlier and just got normal ones I did pick up some of the little plastic screw head covers though as well thought I could glue them down on top to stop the screws catching.
We got rid of our carpet altogether and put down vinyl lino tiles that look like laminate (£5 per pack in B&Q and we only used 4 packs) We bought a runner from Asda - cost £8 and is machine washable and we put that down the sitting area.
