Initial check will be the fuse if not done so already. You'll most likely have the mains plug in a socket in a nearby cupboard, check the fuse plus check the circuit brakers on the fuse board in case any tripped.
Worst scenario is the element dud.
we've got the same problem.Fridge had been working fine on EHU last outing but this time it would only work on gas.fuse ok and nothing tripped.OH is now working out how to remove fridge so he can check it out.
Any ideas how quickly gas is used when running the fridge? soon going away for 4 days and I doubt the fridge will have been sorted by then.Just put a new full bottle on last week.
You don't say very much about your set up like where the fridge is switched from we had one that was switched from the Zig unit, the Zig had a socket/plug arrangement in the back that often got detached killing the fridge power...
------------- Caravanning is a way of getting a cheap holiday out of an expensive hobby
motley - I'm not sure about running off the battery,we always put our fridge items in a cool bag with ice blocks in the back of the car, hook the fridge up when we get on site then transfer our stuff.
Rune - zig unit?? sorry, not sure what that is! but OH checked where the fridge is plugged in and all seems ok there.Full bottle of gas has just been connected and I've just exchanged the old one today so will have two bottles with us when away. Was just enquiring about gas usage as have never run fridge on it before!
If the fridge is running ok on gas & 12v while driving but not on 240v & all connections/fuses are ok, the the heating element will probabley have failed, these can be replaced, approx £40parts+labour.
My sister has just bought a van-a 1997 Bailey Ranger 2 berth, this van has NEVER been used on gas at all, it was kitted out by the previous owner just to run from the hook up on site. Now she wants the fridge to run on gas and it wont. It looks like the fridge may have been taken out as it is not a snug fit and it wobbles a bit. Her and her husband don't know what to do, just use a coolbox and don't bother with the fridge or to get a repair man in to sort it. Nothing regarding the above but of a similar nature. cheers gary
Not sure if its worth mentioning or not, but there is a fail safe device on most fridges which won't allow you to run gas and 240 volt together, it also applies if you try gas and then turn it off and want to switch straight to 240 volt. It usually resets itself in around 15mins...to allow gas to go before 240 volt used.

Provided fridge is all connected up properly I would guess the gas burner needs cleaning. On the outside of caravan at back of fridge there are 2 ventilation grilles. Remove bottom one(4 screws)& you will see burner at bottom right of back of fridge, clean out with small artists' paintbrush & plenty of meths. Then fridge should light.
Hi, we just had to get our Thetford fridge repaired at a cost of £75 for a new motherboard. It wouldnt work at all and its the second time in 18 months that its happened. Not very happy about it but what can you do???
