My friend has just bought a Hymermobile Eriba Puck Nova 680 1991 model which is in excellent condition. However he has received no paper work or instructions and the Heating and Hot water system is a bit of a mystery to us.

The door catch for holding the caravan door open is broken and also the one for the front locker outside.

Can anyone help with for first part and also where it would be best to try and get spares.

Any help on this would be gratefully appreciated

The name seems a bit of a mixture, if it is a Hymer nova 680 from 1991 then it will be a very large version of the picture you can see n my avatar. If that is the case then the front locker catch is £1.73 and the door catch is £2.85 and they can be had from Lowdhams caravans either in Nottingham or in Huddersfield. I know the Hudersfield branch will send them out, tel 0140846426413  the front locker catch they keep in the shop and the door catch has to come from the parts department.

The heating should be a standard Truma Blown air system, with a fan control on the left end of the top of the heater panel and the Gas lighting mechanism on the right, to light the gas turn the nob  and press down to open the gas valve and the unit will click until the gas is lit ( if it does not click the battery in the unit needs changing ( I have not done anything with mine in 7 years ). The elctric heating control will be a small round switch with a black centre which has numbers on it, just turn the outside of the switch anticlockwise for one click for 2kw, clockwise one click for 500w and clockwise two clicks for 1kw. The water heater again is a truma unit and they usually put the switches for it set into one of the seat bases. There are two switches one is similar to the electric fire control and this one turns the gas on for the water heating ( you must remove the vent cover outside first ), the second is just an illuminated rocker switch, when it lights up the water heater is on .

If the van is an eriba Puck then it is a very small van and although some of the above will be correct there may be differences.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

janus,

Many thanks for replying so quickly to my post. Your avatar is a bit small but yes I think you are right. The caravan is large (27' approx shipping lenghth and double axle).
Will use your contacts to see if we can get door catches.

The central heating/hot water system is foxing us though as it is not as you describe and I would recognise from my own caravan ownership. It seems to be some sort of wet system.

This model has a smallish inboard water tank in toilet cupboard which runs to a black box under the rear nearside seat/bed. This box has a red and a clear water pipe running into and out of it plus also the blown air central heating tube appears to run through it also. There is also a spare electrical cable (2) with nothing connected which makes us wonder if there is something missing.

My friend rang an Eriba dealer in the south of England somewhere but it expertise didnt seem to go beyond the smaller Eriba Pucks with pop up roofs.

Any help that you and the experts out there can provide will just great.

Thanks

George Mc

Ring Lowdhams in Huddersfield they have the expertise, they sell the large Hymer Novas. I know that they have the catches in stock, I bought a pair of them a couple of weeks ago.

Alternatively you could contact Hymer direct from their website http://www.hymer.com/cms/en/company/contact.html   and I know from experience just how helpful they can be.

This is my van a Nova 470 as it is in the avatar

Janus,

Once again many thanks for the info, it has really been useful and my friend is most appreciative.

As a matter of interest we have got to the bottom of how the system works by visiting the Truma website. It seems you can heat the water from the blown air central heating sysem as well as from 240v site electrics. It still isn't working but at least we have a step for a clue now.

Many thanks

George Mc

That sounds interesting I must look at the truma site to see what sort of system they fittted. Enjoy the Hymer.
