Has anyone got a Tec caravan? We have just bought one and presumed it would have a battery charger fitted but it doesn't seem to have one! Are they not fit as standard? We couldn't understand why all the lights went out when we were on EHU - (being new to caravaning). There doesn't seem to be a switch to change from 230v to 12v in the van either. Everyone says there will be a switch somewhere, but we have searched everywhere and can't find it!

Also, does anyone have an owners manual for a Tec van? We have every other manual - heating, fridge, but could really do with an owners manual.

Any advise/help would be good. Thanks.

It might depend whether its a Continental spec van as they often don't have chargers. When a dealer/importer brings a range of vans in from Europe they usually upgrade them to a UK spec. They just have a different way of doing things in Europe. Elite Caravans at Braunston sold them for years but (I think) recently lost the franchise.

I would have thought it shouldn't be too difficult to fit one if there isn't one in there.
Someone on this forum should be able to show a link giving the procedure. (sorry - a bit too tired to do a search!)

Couple of links for you:

UK Dealer

TEC Caravans

Check first if you have a battery, most German vans are not fitted with one, if you do have a battery it has possibly been fitted in this country.

The lighting on German vans are usually dual voltage in as much as there will be a number of 12v bulbs wired on a separate circuit to the main 230v lighting. The 230v lights are fed from the EHU while the 12v is powered from the tow vehicle via the 13 pin plug & socket. You should have 2 switches for your lighting one 230v the other 12v. BTW each bulb socket should have a sticker by it indicating whether it is 12v or 230v

Thanks for replies everyone. We decided to get it serviced at the weekend and were really pleased with the service. Apparently these vans don't come with battery or charger (as you mentioned) so we just need to buy a charger.

Solihull caravans serviced it (would recommend). I also emailed  TEC in Dusseldorf and they sent me a manual free of charge within days! Very impressed.
