Hello
We've started our (enormous!) damp repair. We've pretty much got to replace everything in our old 'van but we're working in small sections and taking it at a steady pace so hopefully we'll get there eventually.
My question is about a repair we need to do to our ceiling. Our van is very old and has a lantern roof - with little 'skylight' windows all along the edge, these have let in water which has, over time rotted the ply on the ceiling. We're going to replace this ply once the windows are water tight but I've just had what could be a genius idea. however, I seldom have genius ideas so I thought I'd better check with you lot first!
My idea was that, before we replace the insulation/beams/ply wood etc we paint all the exposed aluminium/roof joists/beams etc with some sort of rubberised paint - to guard against rot in the future. We're using tanalised timber for all the repairs so could this be overkill, or a fire risk, or just a pointless exercise.
What do you think?
Kelly
