We are planning on getting our caravan back on the road, now I know we need new tyres on for sure that's fine, we are going to get a service done but seeing as the van hasn't moved for a good few years that's concerning me! If they are doing a service if brakes need attention is it included in the price and if so how far does it go? Essentially how much does the service cover and repair under the cost of it and what costs extra so I can budget
Thanks
Karen

The service should cover all the running gear, brakes hitch etc, the brakes have to be checked and adjusted, various other parts lubricated and adjusted, also make sure all vehicle  lights work.

They should also check operation of all gas appiances (some parts need cleaning) and electrical appliances. Also do safety checks and a damp check.

The dealer/service engineer should show you the check list they use.

My experience is that caravan sales/service places are not that good at what I call 'roadworthyness services' (ie brakes/wheels/lights.)

The chances are that you have the ubiquitous Al-Ko chassis, as do I, so I use a local trailer manufacturer and they carry out what they call a 'trailer service' for me and charge £60 + any parts.

Whilst it is likely that there are trailer companies in your area, perhaps the easiest way of finding one is looking up National Trailer & Towing Association and having a word with a local member.

As for gas & electric checks, perhaps ask around at your local caravan service organisations and find out who does this for them and find out how much this is likely to cost that way.

PS

I recall several threads about mobile caravan engineers, perhaps you could either do a search for these or post another thread asking for recommendations in your area.

Hi thank you for that, I have the original guy that serviced it prior to us buying it but have found slightly cheaper too nearby, just concerned that I pay the service only to find I need to pay masses more over and above! It is a massively old van now but still in the same condition we bought it which was amazing! It's more the technical/ safety stuffs I am concerned about as I know nothing about that! Don't want to be conned either because I know nothing
