Hi,

Does anyone know the difference between the Alko 90S/2 (1980-89) and the current 90S/3 overun coupler?  My current van has a very weathered (and seized) 90S/2, can I simply replace it with a 90S/3?

The rest of the braking system is fine, so I'm thinking a like-for-like replacement and re-adjust the brakes (probably not even necessary, but just for good measure!)

Thanks for any advice,
James

This might be an area that would be best consoluting Al-ko on for a definitive answer.

Email addy for their service dept is service at al-ko.co.uk (obviously replace the 'at' and the spaces with the usual symbol, which is removed automatically by the forum)

Thanks Paul, but I've already spoken to Al-ko and they hold no technical data regarding the 90S/2!!!  It was all scrapped when they ceased producing the coupler!

I was hoping someone may have has experience updating/repairing a chassis with a 90S/2 fitted.

A quick follow up on this one.

I successfully replaced my seized spring-cylinder Alko 90S/2 with the latest gas strut Alko 90S/3 (less than £200 from Western Towing).  The mounting pattern is identical, and all that was required was a new length of M10 rod and brake balance bar.

The replacement was mega easy, and I'm really chuffed with the result.  The only fine tuning required was opening out the handbrake hole in the A-Frame fairing, as the handbrake handle is slightly offset between the two models.
