Hi guys

We have a Swift Challenger 2008. We always use electric hook up. On our last trip everything that runs on 12v like the water pump and lights stopped working. but the tv and lights that run on 240v  where ok. We suspect its the battery charger which is not charging on 240v. We could not check the battery level as the control panel kept turning off ( the one above the door). When we arrived home the battery was fully charged. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Could be the fuses for the 12 volt system if the charger is functioning OK ?

I'd suspect either loose battery terminals on the battery itself or loose multi-plug to the consumer unit (where all the fuses are)

"....We suspect its the battery charger which is not charging on 240v. We could not check the battery level as the control panel kept turning off ( the one above the door)...."

Your control panel operates the 12v power supply which incorporates a battery charger. So when connected to EHU, it is the power supply that you are getting most of your 12v from. In fact you probably do not need a battery at all when using EHU.

So would suspect problem with power supply output or in control panel. Fairly easy for a competent caravan electrician to check.

Hi Guys

Thanks for your replies.

If there is a problem with the control panel  or power supply would that not effect any appliance that is on ie the tv or lights, these working fine

Thanks again

You are correct. 240v appliances and 12v appliances (apart from common supply) are totally separate.

Hi folks
I have had a similar problem with our 2008 Challenger 540. I sent away the rubbish Italian MCU-C unit to Apuljack but they tell me that the charger is not in it, any idea where to find the charger as at my wits end.
regards
Fred

if the battery has charge in it the 12 volts stuff should still work.. the battery powers the 12 volts stuff the charger charges the battery and also should feed the 12 volt stuff even if the battery is flat..

the fact your battery has charge in it but no 12 volt stuff is working tends to suggest its not just the charger at fault.. if it was the 12 volt stuff should still work until the battery runs down..

that cheap multimeter tool that everyone should have comes to mind.. he he

if the battery is being charged.. whilst its being charged there will be 13.5 volts at the battery terminals.. if it isnt being charged there will be 12.5 or less.. or if there is no voltage difference at the battery terminals when mains charger is plugged in as opposed to when it isnt the charger isnt working..

but if the battery has charge in it the 12 volt stuff should still work at least for a while even if the charger isnt working.. with a multimeter its very easy to tell if a charger is working or if it isnt..

every caravanner really should have one.. he he
