Hi all

As my Churchill Premier was in quite a state when I got it, I'm pretty much re-doing everything in it and could do with some info on the plumbing. Looks like one of the previous owners has stripped out all the pumps and cut off some of the pipes so need some info on what goes where and how to connect it all up. I've got a Carver Cascade mk1 water heater, when connected to 12v the light on the thermostat comes on (I turned it off shortly after in case anything would get damaged) and I assume it would work fine (should I get this tested before starting all the plumbing? if so, how/where/can I do it myself?).

My understanding is that I would need a pump to fill up the water heater from an aquaroll for hot water, would I also need another pump to pump out of the heater to the taps? Could the same pump be used and the output be split to go to the heater and cold taps? How would I go about turning the pump on and off, a simple switch would do it but is there any better way? I've heard of pressure switches mentioned on here, any info on these? Also tap microswitches (I need to get kitchen taps I think, can't remember whats in there) are they any good?

Also for a shower, would a tap like this be suitable, and would the shower need a separate pump for hot and cold? and if so, could this be linked to the kitchen sink taps?

Sorry it's such a long post, if pics are required, there's a few of various bits on my blog.

Any advice is always appreciated :)

I have a Cascade manual i can send you , if you'd like it just email me ( address below ) .

Water system , you put a water pump in a Aqua roll , the pump will need the correct type of socket on the caravan so you can plug it in . The pump will need a 12volt battery supply , this will go to the back of the socket inside the caravan .
Also rear the back of the socket you can fit a pressure switch , it works on pressure in the pipes , so if you open a tap the pressure drops and the pressure switch turns on the pump . When you turn the tap off presssure builds in the pipe and the switch cuts the supply to the pump . Some pressure switches come already built into the back of the socket . See here http://www.1carpc.co.uk/wcdr/new-page-4.htm

After the pressure switch , use a Y connection , take one pipe feed to the water heater and on the other feed pipe use another Y connection ( this is your cold feed ) take one end to the shower cold tap , and one to the kitchen cold tap .
From the pipe that went to the water heater you need to connect another pipe to the heater outlet , this is then taken to the shower tap and kitchen tap .

Hope this helps .

Ps, if you use a pressure switch system you don't need to use taps with micro-switches , a pressure switch system is easier to install and there's less to go wrong .

Hi Wizard,

thanks for your reply, this is a great help and it all makes much more sense now. Our van doesn't have an external pipe connector like the one in the picture but would something like this work? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Caravan-Motorhome-Whale-Water-Pressure-Switch-/260622855051?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Campervan_Caravan_Accessories&hash=item3cae552b8b#ht_500wt_1154

Also, would the one pump be sufficient to run the shower as well, what pump would you recommend? (preferably one which can be found cheaply on ebay)

thanks
