Why dont you go down to a near by building site, they amount of good wood that is put in skips is criminal.
Also try your local recycling site, B&Q also sell off cuts they are very cheap and if you want it cheaper the guy will usualy mark it down for you, they just want rid of it.
If your not proud do a bit of skip raking.
Once you start looking you will be amazed at how easy it is to get your hands on some wood.
If it is for repairing a caravan, i would just buy it as the timber cost is nothing compaired to all the other stuff you need like sealers and no nails at £5 - £8 a tube and you need plenty of it.
